In December 2022, I decided to move to Lisbon, Portugal. Therefore, the Art House Film Club is changing it’s mandate:
2020-2022: The film club was set up to create a community around European and World Cinema in Toronto, with monthly film viewing events
2022-Present: The film club will be used to create a community around great European and World Cinema in Lisbon. This mandate is not particularly unique in Portugal, as we are blessed that films are more often subtitled here than dubbed. Nor is it unique that there is a community of film lovers, Lisbon is a city populated with cinemaphiles and film makers. What this site will attempt to do is to help connect non-Portuguese speakers with these communities so that they can profit from and contribute to the vibrant cultural scene in this city. The community is here, but sometimes it is hard to connect with locals due to language barriers and just lack of knowledge of what this city has to offer when one first arrives.
It is my hope that this site can help bridge that gap.
